Kane County Hospital’s Healing Arts is very pleased to be showcasing Al Young and his unique, one of a kind walking sticks and canes.
Al was born and raised in Monticello, Utah. He served this country with a tour of duty in the Air Force during the Korean War. As a civilian he spent most of his life in construction.
“As a contractor I have built a number of cabins on Cedar Mountain, here in Kane County and in other regions as well”, noted Al. He continued with, “This allowed me to enjoy wandering and hiking through the woods and finding many of the unusual pieces of wood that I have crafted into the canes and hiking sticks that are in the main hallway at Kane County Hospital.” His canes and walking sticks have been awarded “peoples choice” for popularity and originality.
He has sold hundreds of his “sticks” at arts and crafts shows locally and throughout the United States. “Several of the old movie stars have purchased canes from me at past Western Legends shows. Hugh O’Brien, Bat Masterson, was one of them”, he touted with a well-earned pride. “It has been a very satisfying hobby for me and I have made many new friends because of it.”
Al “the Stickman” will be displaying his walking sticks at Kane County Hospital’s Healing Arts display from June 5 through July 2. This is a truly unique show, one you are sure to enjoy. KCH will be hosting an open house on Thursday, June 14th at 5:30 in the hospital lobby. Give yourself a treat, come in and say hello to Al and view his remarkable craft. Light refreshments will be served.
